Developing Your Influencing and Persuasive Skills

Congratulations – you have been asked to lead the PR and communications campaign to launch your company’s new product into the market.  All that is required of you is to influence and align all of the key stakeholders across your organization – none of whom you have formal authority over.
You are not alone! In today’s highly matrixed and global organizations, influencing and motivating stakeholders can prove challenging, even when you do have formal authority and ‘power’. Yet your success as a strategic communication professional depends to a large extent on your abilities to influence and persuade others’ behaviors and actions.

Influencing an external client can help organically grow your agency’s business – being perceived as a thought leader and leader in general, as opposed to a “contract resource.” Media influence is about sales influence - how to become a valued resource for the press (traditional and non-traditional) so they will respond to your pitches. Social influence is all about developing your own social brand and developing a narrative that other social influencers want to hear.
Join leadership development expert John Millea for a leadership boot camp, in which he will share research, techniques and tools for developing your influence and persuasion skills. Become better at gaining commitment from people at all levels: direct reports, peers, managers and clients.
In this imaginative, inspirational and impactful half-day session on Friday, March 23rd, John will serve as your guide as you explore how to:

  • Identify key constituents you need to influence
  • Recognize your own influence ‘style’
  • Move beyond a reliance on positional power
  • Earn a seat at the table
  • Build coalitions and buy-in
  • Understand your own sources of influence
  • Build flexibility into your approach to influencing others

Come with your questions and your specific job context, as we explore how you can influence others more effectively.
